The British School in Tokyo is seeking a Secondary School Counsellor to join in January 2027. Reporting to the Deputy Principal, the counsellor will provide confidential individual and group counselling to secondary students and support their social, emotional and psychological wellbeing.
Key responsibilities include developing and evaluating a whole-school counselling programme; using assessment and student data to plan appropriate interventions; collaborating with pastoral, medical, safeguarding and senior leadership teams; advising staff and parents; supporting student and family transitions; delivering workshops and training; and coordinating referrals to external counsellors, psychologists or psychiatrists when appropriate.
The successful candidate will uphold recognised professional ethical guidance, maintain appropriate supervision and professional development, play an active role in safeguarding, and communicate effectively with students, families, colleagues and external professionals. Appointment is subject to enhanced DBS or international child-protection checks and satisfactory background checks for previous countries of residence.
This is a full-time, fixed-term position starting in January 2027. Applications close 20 September 2026.
