The Really Great Teacher Company is seeking a bilingual special-needs ESL teacher to work remotely with blind, deaf, and deafblind children in Costa Rica. Teachers deliver one-to-one and small-group online sessions using adapted and accessible materials. The part-time independent-contractor role begins immediately after recruitment and offers flexible hourly scheduling. Applicants must be based in Central or South America.
Candidates must be native Spanish speakers with C1 or C2 English proficiency, hold a bachelor’s degree or higher, and possess an accredited 120-hour TEFL, TESOL, or CELTA certificate. A specialised qualification in visual impairment, deaf education, deafblindness, or special needs is required, together with at least three years of recent English-teaching experience. Applicants need at least 10 hours of weekly availability, including five peak hours, and must have no criminal record.
Sign-language proficiency, certified Braille skills, deafblind communication methods, AAC experience, and postgraduate training in inclusive or special education are highly advantageous. Required equipment includes an Intel Core i5 computer with 8 GB RAM, 20+ Mbps wired fibre internet, noise-cancelling headset, HD webcam, and a quiet teaching space.
